'Homeland' Sweeps TV Drama Categories At Golden Globes

Espionage drama continues its winning streak with three major awards at Sunday night's ceremony. By Kevin P. Sullivan (@KPSull)

Claire Danes and Damian Lewis in "Homeland"

As has been the trend for the past two years, "Homeland" continued to dominate the television categories for drama Sunday night (January 13) at the 2013 Golden Globes. After cleaning up at this year's Emmy Awards, the espionage series won all three major honors for TV drama.
First up, Damien Lewis, who plays the mysterious veteran Nicholas Brody, took to the stage to collect his trophy for Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama. His acceptance speech ended on a touching note with a shout-out to his deceased mother Charlotte.
"Just before I go, I want to dedicate this to my mom, who I know is up there tonight looking down on me, bursting with pride and telling everyone up there all around her how well her son is doing in acting."

Golden Globes 2013: Highlights
Immediately after Lewis' speech, Paul Rudd and Salma Hayek took to the stage to award the biggest television award for drama, Best Television Series - Drama, and it made for one of the more awkward moments of the night. After what was presumably a teleprompter mishap, Rudd and Hayek stood silently waiting for something, anything, to happen.
Eventually the nominees appeared on the screen, and "Homeland" was able to claim its prize. An otherwise typical speech from executive producer Alex Gansa made a bit of a controversial turn when he named three actors whose characters died this past season.
While her "Homeland" co-star Mandy Patinkin lost the Best Supporting Actor award to "Game Change" star Ed Harris, Claire Danes closed out the "Homeland" trifecta with her second straight Golden Globe for playing CIA agent Carrie Mathison. Toward the end of her speech, Danes recalled the experience of breaking the news of her pregnancy to the cast this season. "I admitted to everyone on the show early in the season, that I was with child," she said. "Carrie was, in fact, carrying. They were all so, so supportive."
