Shoplifter suspect causes disturbance at Roosevelt Field Mall
A loud noise caused by an alleged shoplifter knocking over a display case sent people running out of the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City Tuesday.
There were loud banging noises that numerous people reported sounded like gunfire after the display was knocked over, inside a Macy's store.
People ran out, but the mall was never fully evacuated. There was no gunfire or weapon recovered.
The shoplifter was taken into custody. The scuffle during the arrest may have been what knocked the display case down.
The mall was not locked down. However, individual stores brought their gates down.
Nassau County Police issued an advisory, assuring the public that no shots were fired.
