Miley Cyrus: Going Naked In ‘Adore You’ Video Was The Wrong Move
Miley Cyrus’ choice to once again ditch her clothes for the ‘Adore You’ video wasn’t a smart one. There’s nothing wrong with being naked and sexual, but as a true fan of Miley and of the beautiful song, I would have loved to see a more sensitive, real side of the singer.
We get the picture. Miley Cyrus doesn’t want to be Hannah Montana anymore. But when does that reason run out? We’ve seen her twerk, get super friendly with a foam finger and now get super friendly with herself in bed in the video for “Adore You.”
Miley Cyrus: ‘Adore You’ Video Should Have Been Different
Sure, being naked gets people’s attention — but so does good music. I’ll admit that I’m a huge fan of Miley’s Bangerz album. It’s different, fresh and extremely entertaining.
“Adore You” is one of my favorite songs on it, so when I found out it would be her next single, I was happy! It’s a love song, written about her ex Liam Hemsworth (ie. the line, “we’re meant to be in holy matrimony”), and showed a side of Miley we kind of forgot was there through all the latex outfits.
That being said, the video resorted back to the risqué Miley. We know she just wants to be herself, but she can still be Miley andwear clothes. Rolling around in the sheets and the bathtub, and touching herself and filming it on a hand-held camera, isn’t exactly what I was hoping for for a romantic song.
“Adore You” is a beautiful song, regardless of the sultry video that goes along with it, but it does take away from it.
Miley: Yes Sex Sells, But That’s Not All That Sells
We know Miley is all about the shock factor — it’s worked for her this year especially. But at this point, it doesn’t shock us that she’s being sexual and showing off her nipples.
At 21, Miley appears desperate to be looked at as a sex symbol. However, it’s not only sex that makes a star sexy. If Miley stood, wearing a dress (yes, it can still be short) and really sang her heart out for this song and even maybe got a little emotional, we wouldn’t mind it!
Sexy is technically defined as “sexually attractive or exciting.” However, when you’re naked every other day, that becomes less and less exciting.
I get it, Miley is trying to show that she can finally be herself. But sex isn’t all that she is. Her voice is stronger than ever and gets overlooked by all of this — or lack there of.
