SAN ANTONIO (Sporting Alert) – The following are the NCAA college football bowl scores and results from the games that took place on Monday, December 30.
Among the winners on the night were No. 10 Oregon, which defeated Texas in the Alamo Bowl and Texas Tech who celebrated victory over No. 14 Arizona State in the National University Holiday Bowl.
The Oregon Ducks (11-2), led by Marcus Mariota, who threw for 253 yards and a touchdown, scored a 30-7 win over the Longhorns (8-5), handing coach Mack Brown a defeat in his final game with Texas.
At the end of the day, Brown, who resigned earlier this year, said the decision was best for everyone.
“I think it’s best for Texas. It’s best for me, it’s best for the players,” he revealed. “We need to win more than eight games.
“Last year was nine. I really thought we had a chance to win all the games this year. It didn’t work. It’s my job to make that work. I told them tonight, the only regret I had is we didn’t win enough games this year.”
In the late game on the night, freshman Davis Webb threw for 403 yards on his way to equaling a Holiday Bowl record with four touchdown passes, for Texas Tech (8-5) to upset Arizona State (10-4), 37-23 and ended a five-game losing streak.
“When Coach told me I was going to start, there was nothing but joy,” Webb said. “I told myself that I was going to make sure that I was going to send the seniors out right.
“We came prepared. We leaned on each other and we showed that today. It’s pretty exhilarating right now. I’m so proud of this team,” he added.
Elsewhere, Ole Miss beat Georgia Tech 25-17 to lift the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, while Navy (9-4) cruised past Middle Tennessee (8-5), 24-6 in the Armed Forces Bowl.
