Claire Davis: Arapahoe High School Shooting Victim Dies At 17

So sad. The lone victim from the Dec. 13 high school shooting lost her battle and died on Dec. 21 in a Colorado hospital. She was only 17 years old.

Since the devastating shooting at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. on Dec. 13, the nation had been holding out hope that there would be zero fatalities from the violent incident. Tragically, that cannot be the case after Claire Davis, 17, died on Dec. 21. She had been in critical condition since the shooting.

Claire Davis: School Shooting Victim Dies

“It is with heavy hearts that we share that at 4:29 p.m. this afternoon, Claire Davis passed away, with her family at her side,” Littleton Adventist Hospital said in a somber statement to CNN.
The statement continued:
Despite the best efforts of our physicians and nursing staff, and Claire’s fighting spirit, her injuries were too severe and the most advanced medical treatments could not prevent this tragic loss of life. Claire’s death is immensely heartbreaking for our entire community, our staff and our families.

The Arapahoe High School Shooting

Claire was the lone gunshot victim from Karl Pierson‘s, 18, attack on his own school on Dec. 13. She was huddled near a door in the school when Karl entered and opened fire on her at point-blank range. She suffered severe head trauma, and was rushed to the Littleton Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.
Unfortunately, doctors could not save her, and it was apparent early on that Claire’s chances were slim. Her condition was upgraded from serious to critical after the surgery, and her father toldKMGH, “she’s not doing very well.”
Claire’s passing is absolutely tragic. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends, as well as the entire Arapahoe High School community.
