This is what Calvin Johnson dropping a pass looks like

A different kind of unbelievable Calvin Johnson play.

Every now and then, the best players in the NFL will surprise you for the wrong reason. On Sunday, you couldn't count out Touchdown Tom…that was until he threw a game-ending pick to deliver the Dolphins a win. On Monday, it was Calvin Johnson, arguably the best player in the NFL, dropping a Matt Stafford pass that bounced right off his hands. Megatron was pretty much uncovered and uninterfered with on the play. It was as startling a sequence than the many insane catches he's made for Detroit all year:
And that's what it looks like when Calvin Johnson drops the football. According to Pro Football Focus, that's his ninth drop of the season -- but I can't imagine any were that glaring.
It was also a critical drop, as he was surely headed for a first down. Instead, the Lions, who were marching for points on their second straight possession to open the game, were forced to punt, giving the Ravens defense a bit of a breather.
Aside from the playoff implications, this MNF game has a bit of added drama thanks to the trash talk rookie Matt Elam targeted at Johnson heading into the game. So far, Elam has been flagged for hitting Stafford late and Johnson has had that critical drop.
