Toys R Us in North Olmsted attracts steady crowd of bargain seekers on Black Friday (Video)
NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio – Parents, aunts and uncles and others in search bargains on toys spent this morning snatching up bargains at the Toys R Us store near Great Northern shopping center.
Employees were busy restocking shelves, but shoppers reported finding the items they wanted. While business was brisk, most shoppers agreed the crowds this year were smaller than on previous Black Fridays, possibly because more retailers opened on Thanksgiving, reducing the sudden rush of shoppers that typically turns out on the day after the holiday.
Karen Bennett, of Wellington, was in the Toys R Us trying to find gifts for her grandchildren.
"I'm trying to get as much done as I can in the one night," Bennett said.
She said she aimed to do all their Christmas shopping before heading home.
"We didn't start until midnight," John Bennett, also of Wellington, said, explaining they spent Thanksgiving day eating and spending time with family. However, they had been hitting store after store on Friday.
The best deal he had found was a dollhouse for his daughter at Toys R Us that normally sells for $100 but was available on sale for $49.99.
"Crowds have really been light," John said, attributing it to most stores opening on Thanksgiving this year.
Marc Wells, of Fairview Park, was at Toys R Us grabbing some gifts for young family members. He came to the store after buying a ladder for only $15 at Home Depot immediately after the store opened at 5 a.m.
Wells said he was surprised he didn't have to stand in line at either story this year.
"It's great for shoppers, but obviously not so good for the retailers," Wells said.
Frank Vacha, of North Ridgeville, said he was a reluctant Black Friday shopper at Toys R Us this year, but wanted to get presents for nieces, nephews and his own sons.
"I don't do the 3 a.m. or Thanksgiving shopping," Vacha said. "But my wife brought me out."
A sale on LEGOs was the best value Vacha had found.
