NY Giants lose to Dallas Cowboys on last-second field goal, slim NFC East hopes take huge hit

Whatever chances Big Blue had of getting back into the playoff picture were all but crushed by the division rival Dallas Cowboys at Met Life Stadium Sunday.

A frustrated Eli Manning (c.) and the Giants know their season is on life support after a huge hit to their playoff hopes with a 24-21 loss to the Cowboys.

They billed it as their own personal Super Bowl. And after the way they played Sunday, it’s as close as they’ll get to the real thing this year.
The Giants claimed that Sunday afternoon’s rematch with the Dallas Cowboys would be a “bloodbath,” and they entered frigid MetLife Stadium with renewed swagger thanks to a four-game winning streak. But the only blood on Big Blue’s hands was their own after a 24-21 loss that all but extinguished the Giants’ playoff hopes and made them a punchline to the Dallas Cowboys.
“I’m disappointed,” said defensive end Justin Tuck. “I thought we played decent, but not as well as we have been the past four weeks. We had an opportunity to win this football game.”
Indeed, Dan Bailey’s 35-yard game-winning field goal as time expired erased a promising Giants comeback, both in this game and this season. For all Terrell Thomas’ guarantees and Jason Pierre-Paul’s brash trash talk, Big Blue is now 4-7, mired in third place in the NFC East, two games behind the Cowboys (6-5) and Eagles (6-5), who are tied atop the division. To Dallas, which owns the head-to-head tiebreaker, the Giants are a joke.
