GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - It's Day 2 of shopping for holiday deals.
Many stores opened their doors on Thanksgiving so shoppers could begin their cost-cutting treks.
But some stores waited until the traditional Black Friday, including Cabela's in Grandville.
"At Cabela's, we have a long family tradition and we want to make sure that our outfitters are able to spend time with their families, and we've always liked to kickoff Black Friday at the top of the morning hours," said store general manager John Woniewski.
He said the staff spends months planning for this day.
Many customers began camping outside at 4 p.m. Thursday, and the line eventually wrapped around the store's parking lot. The first 600 customers in line received free prizes.
Once the doors opened at 5 a.m., it was a "controlled chaos," compared to the usual madness seen at stores on this annual bargain day.
Rob Kline and his brother, Rick Herber, arrived in line at 10:30 p.m.
"This place has done so much for the customers since about 1 o'clock this morning -- music, having fun..."
"It's been pretty cold out here, but I gotta say, with the new friends that we have, it's been worth it."
"Just bonding with total strangers, making new friends and the specials, getting out of the house."
"And spending time with my brother. We don't get to spend a lot of time, so it's priceless."
The store is open until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and will have sales the entire weekend.
